Pokemon Frustrations

Alright...so don't judge me here, but lately I got into a Pokemon kick. It all started with this group on Facebook of change your profile picture to a Pokemon for the month of December. Well I did that til the end of finals, and now I'm at home for break and was bored so I broke out the old games. Well here's where the problems start coming up. There are certain things about this game that just drive me insane. Therefore this post is dedicated to those frustrations.

[1] The Remaining Starter
So we all have to pick between either Bulbasaur, Squirtle, or Charmander. Nothing wrong with that...and then of course the rival picks the one that is your weakness...also OK. What is not OK though is the fact that the one starter that doesn't get picked just hangs out for the rest of the game. There is no way to get that one. I mean come on seriously? We just let it sit there all lonely like? If I have to pay to get that remaining one I will, but it's just stupid. Especially when if I really want all the starters I'll just trade at the beginning of the game with a friend to get them all.

[2] Status Effecting Moves
OK I really hate these! Especially ones that mess with me, like Sand-Attack. I mean this one drives me absolutely insane. It's the worst when a move like that is used repeatedly and then gets to the point where it says "[blank]'s accuracy won't lower any more." but the other Pokemon continues to use it and therefore I can't have an attack that hits. Lame.

[3] Magikarp
So I've always hated Magikarp, but as I restarted this game I though you know what I'll give the little guy a chance. I decided to buy one of the little jerks at Mt. Moon from the shady guy in the PokeCenter. (Cost me 500 bucks) Anyways so the stupid thing only comes with Splash...stupid move; does nothing. So in order to train it you have to do one of those "first out switch-a-roo things." Well finally get him to level up to around level 17 and he still sucks. I know it only takes three more levels to he turns into a total badass, but come one! If I didn't know he turned into a badass I never would have stayed and worked like this to get that. No wonder I never did anything with him in the original game.

[4] Trainers with Evolved Pokemon before the level they should be
This is another small thing, but something that drives me nuts. I absolutely hate when a trainer you battle on the road has a Pokemon that is evolved before the level you are able to evolve yours. Perfect example a Raticate at Lv. 16...well if I want a Raticate I have to wait until my Rattata gets to Lv. 20. Bullshit? I think so.

[5] Killing a Pokemon You're Trying to Catch
Have you ever been searching in the grass or a cave for hours on end for that one Pokemon that only appears like 1 out of every 100 encounters and then you try to lower it's HP as low as you can without killing it and then all of a sudden "Critical Hit!" and BAM it faints? Well that's my number 5 frustration. Enough said.

[6] Rare Candy Deception
Alright so the highest a Pokemon can get is Lv. 100 right? So do I really want to waste my time training it to that level? NO! So I decide I want to use my rare candy collection to get it there. Well see there's this thing they don't tell you about rare candies. Sure it makes your Pokemon level up but it doesn't make them stronger. I remember taking a rare candied Pokemon to the Elite 4 once...one hit and dead. But my level 60 trained Pokemon won the battle. So much for instant gratification.

[7] Game Pokedex vs. TV Show Pokedex
Anyone who watched the show knows how the Pokedex that Ash has works. He sees a Pokemon and it gives him the info. Simple right? Well not in the game...no in the game you have to actually catch the little shits before you get anything. Another bullshit moment of the game I think.

[8] HMs and Their Use
The use of HMs to advance through the game really annoy me. We all know that in a battle that none of the HMs except maybe Surf and Fly are any good at all. Yet to get through the storyline portion of the game you have to use these stupid things like Flash (screw that one) and strength. This inevitably resulted in the creation of an HM whore. You know...the Pokemon that has all of its moves as HMs. Yeah that poor Pokemon...once the game's storyline is finished...no one wants that one.

[9] Leveling Up for Gyms/Other Important Battles
This is one of the most monotonous parts of the game. It's easy to level up when there are trainers to fight as their Pokemon yield more experience, but when they are all exhausted you're left with the stupid wild ones. Well if you're trying to level up your Pokemon at the beginning of the game, that's not too big of a deal, but as they get higher in level it gets harder to just train them like that. I remember spending hours trying to get to a point where I could take on a certain Gym leader. Time in my life I will never get back. :(

[10] Getting a Nicknamed Pokemon in a Trade
There are a few benefits to trading Pokemon. One of those benefits is faster growth...another is expanding your Pokedex. You know what one of those benefits is not? Getting a Pokemon with what the original owner thought was a clever nickname. Today I trade a Nidoran female for a Nidoran male and the stupid little girl who had him before made his name Mr. Nido. So you think oh OK I'll just takehim to the Name Rater in Lavender Town. NOPE! He won't let you change the name. Now the guy won't be taken seriously in a battle with my friends when it says Mr. Nido used Poison Sting. Fail!

There are more frustrations to be had I'm sure, but these are the ones that come to my mind as I read through this. If you have any other frustrations please feel free to share. I would love to remember the things that drove me insane as a child.

Someone I Look Up To

So I hadn't really planned on writing this blog tonight and I had definitely not planned on writing on the topic that I'm about to. Normally I just talk about my day and how things went, but due to some of the happenings today and that it's close to Thanksgiving I want to talk about someone I am thankful to have in my life. I doubt they will read this, but I think it's important to recognize the impact this person has had in my life and in my development as a leader and as a person.

The person I am talking about is Tina Powellson. I met Tina through my involvement in Undergraduate Student Government (USG). She serves as the advisor for USG and works closely with our executive team. I met her really for the first time my sophomore year when I was elected as the treasurer. Over the last year that I've had the chance to get to know Tina she has quickly become one of the people I look up to the most.

The first thing I admire about her is that she truly loves her job. She is one of the hardest workers I know when it comes to the office of which she is a part of. She is consistently in the office very early and works late. It's not uncommon to see her work a 12 hour day multiple times a week. The reason I feel she does this is because of her passion for students. I've sat in on many meetings or seen her work closely with student and the work she does with them is great.

She treats students as equals, which is something that is hard to find even in the university world. It is something that I really appreciate. I know that I can have a conversation with Tina and be taken seriously and not have to worry about trying to always say the right things, but can be honest and she understands where I am coming from. Today is a prime example of this. I had a meeting with a campus administrator in which I felt as if I was being talked down to because I was a student and that my efforts in trying to create something for this university didn't mean anything since I didn't have her title. There were multiple times that Tina jumped in and fought for the student perspective or I think realized how frustrated I was getting and interjected to help the conversation head a certain way.

I have taken so many things from Tina that I don't think she may realize. Her leadership skills and ideas on many aspects are things I have noted and continue to try to incorporate into my practices. I decided to take her leadership class this semester and I am so glad that I did. Overall a lot of what I have learned or talked about I knew a little bit about, but it has been great getting to explore some of the topics that she is constantly telling our executive team for USG. Simple things such as recapping saying "If I'm hearing you correctly" are things I catch myself doing, and I know that by doing them I'm setting myself up to be a more successful leader because I can see how they have helped her in her positions.

One of the last reasons I admire her is because she is always able to challenge me. Many times I think I have the right idea or even if I do she brings something up that makes me thing about what I'm doing. Sometimes I think about it and I would still do the same thing other times it makes me change my mind. Either way it's OK, but her ability to make people justify their actions is great. It is almost like a constant check on my actions and I often find myself wanting to do my best because I don't want to disappoint her. It's much like a child parent aspect in that disappointing my parents is so much more of a worse feeling that it is to have them angry at me.

I know that I would not be the same person I am today if I had not had Tina in my life and been able to model myself after her to help myself grow. I am truly thankful for the opportunity that I have had to get to know her and hope that the lessons that she has taught me will carry on throughout my life and not only the remainder of my collegiate career. And Tina if you do read this I just have this to say to you..."Thank you for all that you do. Your hard work does not go unappreciated and it has made a profound difference in my life and who I will eventually become."

Getting Back in The Swing of Blogging

So here I am just sitting on my computer tonight having a great conversation with my brother, Areef, when he blurts out "so you're done with blogging I take it?"

Well you see, it's not that I'm done blogging, I just kind of always forget about it until he brings it up and I normally just don't get on to write something when he reminds me. However tonight is a different story and I decided it was time I get back into the swing of constantly updating this thing. I mean it is a good way for people to follow and perhaps I can get more "philosophical" like he does. :)

It's kind of hard to decide where to start on the updating so I'll start with some recent things and just go from there.

Well the great news that I got this week was that I got my internship in Chicago! I'm really excited about that and I already want it to be summer now. I will be working for McCrone Associates, Inc. It's a microscopy lab in Westmont, IL which is a suburb of Chicago. Not entirely sure what I'll be doing or what my research project will be while I'm there, but that's OK. I'm supposed to meet with the guy who hired me sometime between now and the beginning of the year. The lab definitely seems nice and hopefully I'll get some great experience. Dr. Siegel said he's really excited to hear that I got it and looks forward to hearing how it works while I'm up there. I've been searching for apartments this week. It's so expensive to live in Chicago. I found a studio apartment for around $600, which in Chicago definitely isn't bad, but it's sad to think I could pay that in Indy and probably get a 1 or 2 bedroom apartment. Overall though it's gonna be awesome. I'm excited because I'll get to hang out with some of my Phi Psi friends who live up there that I haven't hung out with in a long time.

Being an RA has gone pretty well. I got off to a rocky start, but things have turned around a lot and I'm having fun. I've had a couple pretty successful programs. I took my residents to an Apple Orchard towards the middle of October and they had a lot of fun. I still have some apples from it. Jonathon apples are by far the best apples I've ever had in my life. The other program was "Thirsty" Thursday. We have a bar area in our lounge downstairs so myself and a couple other RAs were bartenders and made some "drinks" all night long. It was pretty cool and it was nice to have the residents come down and chill. This Sunday I have my Thanksgiving potluck. Hopefully my residents bring some food otherwise there won't be much since I'm not really cooking much at all.

Student government is going pretty well also. We had our last senate meeting today so that's nice. Means I'm able to partially reclaim some of my Fridays now. I'm still working hard with my committee to help plan Homecoming. That's a lot of hard work and I'm hoping that people start picking up the work that needs to be done and actually doing things instead of just talking about them. Still working with housing to try to get a Fraternity and Sorority theme house in the Campus Apartments. The survey results that I did showed that it actually would be supported by the NIC and NPC groups...now it's just a matter of knocking out the logistics on housing's end and I think it can definitely work for the Fall of 2010.

School sucks and I can't wait for this semester to be over. My classes are definitely not that enjoyable. The only classes I've really enjoyed have been those not associated with my major. Who would guess that. I've had forensic chemistry which isn't bad, it's just the structure of the class really frustrates me and I haven't had such a great learning experience in there. Instrumental chemistry lecture and lab both really suck. My teacher for that class (lecture) has changed the structure of tests both times so far. We went from an average of a 50 to an average of a 90. That is the most ridiculous average I've ever seen. I mean I like getting an A on a test, but not when I don't feel like it was deserved. The lab is dumb as well...it's all stuff I really don't understand and my lab professor will sit there and talk to you about an instrument and just assume you are following along. I always want to look at him and just go "I don't get it...at all." But I feel like that's not the best thing to say. Spanish class has been fun and I really like my teacher. She's really laid back and very nice. Geography is interesting to say the least. It isn't what I thought it would be so that's kinda cool. My favorite class is my exploring leadership class. I only took it since Tina was teaching it, but I'm really glad I took it. It has honestly made me rethink a lot about my career path for after college.

OK so onto my career thoughts. This semester has been full of a lot of changes for me as to what I feel like I want to do. I've obviously decided that I really don't want to do science/chemistry after college. I don't enjoy it for the most part. I mean there are definitely parts of it that I think are still fun, but I don't think I could do that for the rest of my life. Then I went into thinking that I would become a lawyer. Possibly prosecution and such and then eventually move on to be a judge. Lately however I've really been looking into just working with student affairs. Tina always jokes with me that I should go into it, and I always tell her I would never think about it. I even remember telling some of the graduate assistants in the CCL office that I could never do it because I would feel like I was in college for the rest of my life. But I think I've realized that I could do it, because the things I'm invovled in right now are things that I LOVE. I don't like doing all my school work, but I have no problem spending hours and hours getting something done for USG or Phi Psi. I could definitely see myself doing what Tina does or even being a Greek Life Coordinator. I have however decided on one thing. I will not go directly into grad school no matter what I decide on doing. I'm burnt out on school and I know that if I go directly into it, I will not do well. I'm going to take a couple years off of school and try to be a consultant for Phi Psi. If I get hired for that, that's pretty cool. If I don't, I'm sure I can find something to do for a couple of years. And to be honest as I've progressed through college, I realize I have plenty of time to figure out what to do with my life. I remember being in high school freaking out trying to determine what I thought I wanted to do with my life. Glad to see that I've grown in my understanding of who I am, and exactly what I enjoy doing. Because doing what you love isn't a job at all...it's just fun.

TFLN Thoughts

So I decided that I'm going to not write such a serious blog tonight. I'm bored and was reading "Texts From Last Night" and decided I'd write some of my thoughts and reactions to some of these absurd things that people send to others. We'll see how it goes.

(845): Grab the Coor's Light. It's time to get NASCAR drunk. - This just makes me laugh because it makes me think of my parents. Not that they are super huge drunkards by any means, but the whole NASCAR thing. When I was in high school my dad really started liking NASCAR and then he got my mom hooked on it. Now they are crazy about it. Who knew they'd like something like that. I still don't get it...just something about cars going in a circle just doesn't do it for me.

(+44): I just had an epiphany. There is NOTHING TO STOP ME from making cake mix and eating it all instead of makign cake. It feels like my entire life has peaked at this moment. - Definitely understand where this person is coming from. There have been times where I honestly just make cookie dough to eat the dough and never plan on getting to the actual cookie baking stage. I mean really though everyone knows the dough/mix is always the best part. Otherwise we wouldn't lick the bowl when we are done.

(912): Just woke up in the beanbag bin at walmart. - So I've decided that this may be one of the coolest things ever. I already told this one to Areef and he agrees as well. The bin always does look super comfortable. And for some weird reason, I do think it would be cool to just fall asleep in there sometime and then pop out and scare people later. Just saying.

(732): The best part about being a teacher is that there are always 20 little kids around to blame my farts on. - So I'm disappointed in this teacher. I believe they should claim their own farts. Besides the kids would have some respect for a teacher like that...and who knows they may actually like a teacher that relaxes and has fun like that.

(704): I can make a handprint turkey for extra credit in history. I feel like the word college should be in quotations on the school letterhead. - Uh yeah. Well first I agree with this. Second this is actually a bit like my Geography class. We get extra credit for just coming to class and doing these minute papers that he assigns. There's an option to get like 120 extra points. You also get extra credit if you do a service project and write about how it benefits the environment. And in his world the environment is pretty much everything. Another 120 points there. Those two combined is like a whole letter grade...wtf!?

(662): Definitely just saw the guy I went on a date with on Friday night dressed in medieval knight gear on the quad preparing for battle. Oh my God. - HAHAHAHAHAHA. Ok this just reminds me of the live action role playing thing from Role Models. The thought of seeing someone like this just cracks me up. We do have a group that I've seen like this at IUPUI though. They had maces and everything. Weird.

Rearrangments

Well, hm...it's been a week since my last update. It's now September and that means fall is right around the corner. Fall is by far my favorite season. Love the weather that's around during this time of the year and when the trees start changing it's prolly the best thing ever.

Phi Psi has started back up! I definitely missed seeing a lot of the brothers over the summer so it's great to have everyone back together again. We had a great recruitment workshop put on by Spencer. It was a really good one that made the group refocus on our values and how our members values align with those. Then it was off to the actual meeting which wasn't too bad either. I told the brothers about the trip to NIU I'll be making this upcoming weekend. Have had a couple guys tell me that they want to come so that's good news. It should be a pretty exciting weekend though. Will be heading to NIU for their ribbon cutting ceremony for their new house. After that I'll be going to my first ever college football game.

Classes are going pretty well so far. Spanish class is awesome. I'm surprised how much I'm actually remembering from almost three years ago, so that's really nice. I started doing some of our online homework this weekend and it's going pretty well. My two chemistry classes aren't too bad either. Forensic chemistry lecture is kind of boring right now just because of the fact that it's mostly review right now. Lab however seems like it should be pretty cool. I like how we don't have much of a standard for what we have to write in our lab books, which is awesome. In lab the other day we did a "crime scene investigation" as well as "collecting evidence" and comparing similar items. Instrumental lab on the otherhand seems like it's going to be just a big pain in the ass. The electronic lab that we had to do took forever. (Two three hour lab periods) The lecture isn't much better. Not exactly sure what I'm learning in there. This upcoming week though, I'll be starting my Leadership class, which I think is going to be a lot of fun. Tina is my teacher so that shouldn't be bad at all.

Senate started on Friday. I think it went OK for the first meeting. We had about seven senators that didn't show up which is still kind of sad. But an exciting thing was that we had students come who weren't senators at all! Tina said she thinks that is one of the first times she's really seen that happen. Means we did a good job this year at trying to advertise to the general student body through our resource fairs and the involvement expo.

This weekend has been pretty relaxing so far. Went to an Indian's game last night. Props to SAPB! They've been doing some awesome programs for WOW and they are going really well. All 300 tickets sold out for the Indian's game and Jillian's got a lot of students to come out as well. And as for the title of this blog...I really just made it this because I rearranged my room today. It was all I could think of for a catch title. :) I think tonight I'm going to go on a bike ride downtown and take some pictures of Indy at night. So perhaps I'll have some of those to put up on my other blog sometime soon.

Well, I think that's all for now!

Another Go

So this past Wednesday we started up school again. It definitely came up pretty fast this year. With taking two summer courses and then going right into RA training which ended the 21st but then two days of move-in and then bam school. Overall though, I think classes will be pretty good this semster.

Forensic Chemistry seems like it will be a lot of fun. It's a really small class which is nice. Although apparently 10 is a rather large class from what my advisor told me when I talked to her the other day. One nice thing about the class is the fact that our notebooks are way different than for organic and such which is awesome! And Ammerman is teaching it and she's awesome so should be good times in that class. It is weird though, because I think I'm the only junior in the class, even though she keeps referring to us all as seniors. Oh well.

Instrumental will be interesting. I don't know exactly what to think of it yet, but I suppose after this upcoming week, I'll have a little bit more of an understanding of how it will work.

Spanish should be a blast. I love my teacher and she says my name really cool.

Geography...well yeah it's geography...

Anyways, so my residents have moved in and that's awesome. Getting to know some of them and just seeing them around the building is pretty cool. We had our WOW (Week of Welcome) Events on Wed, Thurs, and Fri. They went really well! I hadn't expected it to go so well. I think at our cookout we had almost 100 people and then at the movie on Friday we had like 30 people. Which for the first weekend and it being a Friday was really good!

Things are going pretty well right now though.

A Long Time Gone

It has definitely been a while since I've posted anything on here. Part of that is because I've just been lazy and haven't really gotten around to doing it. Also things have just been really busy with RA training and the beginning of the school year getting closer. Anyways...here's the updates.

RA training started on the seventh of August. The only bad part about that, was it was the same day that I finished my physics class. So I didn't really have a break between the end of summer classes and the beginning of training. So not really a time to fully enjoy summer.

Training has been a lot of fun though. We only have a few more days left before it's over and move in starts and then the school year begins. I love my staff! PARK PLACE! We all get along really well and I'm glad that I am over here now. When I first got hired I was pretty upset about being placed over here, but now I don't want to be anywhere else. Also my supervisor is awesome. He's very relaxed, but I know he'll challenge me to be the best RA I can be.

Anyways I know this is short, but beyond training not a lot has been going on. I'll update again soon!

New Apartment and Life

So it has been a while since I last updated, but I won't be going through each individual day since I've kind of forgotten what has happened on each day. So instead I'll just make themed sections as to what has been happening.

School
Well only a few more days left in physics and then I'm done with it forever! I can't wait. The class has been pretty tough, but somehow I'm doing pretty damn well in it. We got back our third test the other day and I got a 90% on it. I was completely and utterly stunned. Today was the last day in lab and I got all 200 points that were possible in there so that will definitely be a nice grade booster. Kirsten and I worked out where we currently are in the class the other day and I'm sitting on an A right now. So long as I don't mess up the last test this Friday too much, I'll be passing the class with an A or an A-!

Student Government
Had a meeting today with Diana, Sandy, and Tina about the Freshmen Leadership Retreat that I want to start getting planned for next summer. We had a great meeting and got lots of ideas flying around now. I've got some research to do though to start figuring out what we can reasonably accomplish. But I'm so excited if this goes through the way I envision it!

Archon Academy
So the weekend was pretty awesome. The other Archons came into town on Friday night for Archon Academy on Saturday. Friday was also my chapter's one year anniversary of receiving our charter. It's kind of hard to believe a year has already passed since we were installed at GAC here in Indy. It is really exciting though to see that we are growing older and that eventually I will leave and others will take my place. Anyways, Aubrey and Steve were at the hotel so I went and picked them up so they could check out the house and meet some of my brothers. We had to leave early though, because we (the Archons, Shawn, and Chad) went to dinner at the Rathskeller. It is a German restaurant downtown. It was so delicious. Then we just kind of chilled in the hotel all night. I was surprised when I found out that I had a room reserved for me at the Westin since I live in Indy, but it was nice to be with the other guys as well and not have to drive back and forth from the house to downtown for the training and such.

Saturday was an early morning. We went and got some pictures taken for the HQ stuff I believe, then it was off to Laurel Hall. A couple of the guys hadn't been there before, so it was time for a tour. After the tour we got right into training. A huge binder with lots of info and lots of speakers throughout the day. It was a lot of information to handle all at once, but I think once I've gotten a chance to sit down and look over it some more, I'll be good. That night we went to St. Elmos for dinner. I don't think I've ever had such good steak before. We all also got their shrimp cocktail. It was so good. (A little spicy, but good) Then the other Archons and I went out and just hung out around Indy.

Woke up Sunday morning and said goodbye to the other guys and then got back in my car and headed up to the house to get my stuff to move into my new apartment.

New Apartment
Move in day for me wasn't as smooth as I had hoped. Mom came down and I got all the stuff from the house into the apartment just fine, but then when it was time to go to the storage room to get the stuff from there, I realized I didn't have the storage room key anymore.

We searched all over for it and couldn't find it anywhere. It was probably the most frustrating thing that has happened in a long time. Felt bad, because I feel like mom came down for nothing and we got frustrated with each other a little I think. We went a picked up a few things though, and then she went home after we got all that stuff back into the apartment. I went back up to the hosue, becasue I was bored and when I went to get something out of my trunk...I found the damn key! The guys then helped me get the stuff out of my storage room which was a big help. Had dinner with them and then started unpacking everything.

It's taken a couple days to get it all done, but the apartment is definitely starting to look like an apartment now.

Hump Day

Boy Wednesday's are definitely not my favorite. These days always just seem to take to long and go by too fast at the same time. It's kinda weird.

Anyways...I had my first ever phone interview today. Not for a job, but just for a story some lady is writing for the Phi Kappa Psi Foundation. Had a pretty good conversation with her. It was cool though, because I had just woken up and was still in my pajamas. Awesome!

Physics class today was pretty lame. But it was also really short. Left class and had a meeting for the Retro Metro Night that is being put on by the 40th Anniversary Committee. That was OK, but nothing super awesome. Then went back to the USG office and got some stuff done there. Then Brady and I went to his apartment to wait for our Exec. meeting for the night.

Came home and haven't really done much since. Like I said a pretty slow day.

The Time Just Flies

Well it's been a while since my last update, and it sure doesn't really seem like it has been as long as it has. The time just seems to be going so quickly. It only seems like yesterday the summer had started and I thought it was going to be so long before school started back up. Now it's only a week before I move into my apartment, two before RA training begins and a month and school is back in full swing.

Anyways last week I volunteered at the Indianapolis Tennis Tournament. This is my third year doing it and as usual it was a blast. It's nice now as well, because I've become a regular person so a lot of the group knows me now. Makes it better than in previous years when I didn't really know anyone to well. I even recognized some of the umpires and line judges from the year before and got to joke around with some of them. Me and the Egyptian chair umpire even pounded it...which was awkward but cool at the same time. The other awesome part about being there is getting to be really close to the players. I got to talk to Robby Ginepri, and John Isner. Was even super close to Andy Roddick's old coach when I was monitoring one of the matches. Overall that was pretty much my week as I went to class and then spent my time from 6 - 11:30 there each night.

Saturday I woke up early and drove over to Laurel Hall to meet up with the consultants. We drove up to Chicago to do a retreat with IL Delta (University of Illinois - Urbana Champaign). It was a lot of fun. They brought a small group of their officers up and we went over some basics. Talked about a mission statement and then got them to set a few goals and just start thinking about what they need to do in order to be successful for the upcoming year. They had some interesting things that definitely caught my attention, but as long as they can get them to work, then I'll support them. They hadn't used committees for almost 30 years I think they said and are trying to get them working now so that'll take some hard work. They also have two vice presidents (external and internal) which was something new to me. I'm really excited to start working with some of the chapters though. Not necessarily doing any of their work for them, but making sure they are getting to the goals they are setting for themselves and helping them reach them in any way I can.

Sunday was pretty nice as well. I went to the finals of the Tennis Tournament with Ronnie, Kyle, and Alex. It was pretty awesome. I wanted to the AUS doubles team to win and thy didn't, but it was still a really awesome match to watch. Professonal doubles is so awesome and I don't think it gets the hype it should, because all the big name players mainly focus on their singles career. The singles match was pretty awesome. It was an All-American final. Sam Querry vs. Robby Ginepri. Querry kind of gave up on the first set, but gave Ginepri a run for his money on the second. Ginepri still won though 6-2, 6-4. I was pretty excited and he's still the only unseeded player that has won the championship.

Yesterday was pretty boring. I woke up went to class and then didn't do a ton after that. I cleaned up my side of the room and started packing a few things so I can be ready to move into my apartment this weekend. And then today so far all that has happened was I took my Physics test. Which I'm pretty sure I rocked! For some reason this semester has just seemed so much easier. Areef yells at me because Brady and I don't study as much as he says we need to, but it's all good. We are still doing pretty awesome. :)

Ok well that's it for now. Enjoy!

Wedding Bells and Changing Weather

The rest of my weekend was pretty awesome. Saturday morning I woke up and mom and I had pancakes for breakfast. We sat around for a while waiting to see if the sun would come out so we could at least lay outside. Didn't end up happening. This always seems to happen when I go home...the weather just turns horrible. Anyways we ended up going to Wal-Mart and picked up some stuff for dad, and I looked at some new bedding stuff while there. Then we went over to Meijer and did the rounds on "Sample Saturday." We ended up making a salad that we tried there for dinner. It was really good!

Later that night I went to one of my HS friend's sister's wedding reception. It was a good thing that I decided to go home for the weekend because it seems the wedding invitation never made it to me. Because of that I didn't know anything was going on until my friend IMed me and asked if I was going. It was a lot of fun though. Got to see some of my friends from HS that I haven't seen in a while and got to catch up on how things are going for them. Found out my friend Tiffany got into her program so she's coming to IUPUI in the fall for that, so that's really exciting. Hopefully she lives closer to downtown so we can hang out some while she's here.

Sunday was pretty boring. I woke up and got my mom a paper and got some donuts for breakfast. Then we just hung around hoping the weather would get nice, but it didn't. We watched some home remodeling things on TLC...which always just make me want a house of my own so I can do stuff like that. Then I put my first thing for sell on eBay. I'm addicted to looking at it, hoping that the price goes up really well.

Today was good as well. I got my Physics test back. Did pretty well on that one as well, and then we figured out our current grades and I have an A! So I'm pretty excited about that. Definitely ready for this class to be over though, so I don't have to worry about physics anymore. Then we had an emergency meeting for USG to take care of some things that we were behind on. Decided that we would be going to L.A. in the fall for a conference, so pretty excited about that. Then we talked a lot about Senate stuff. I'm really excited to work with senate this year. Got some good ideas to help them take on their responsibilities, and pretty excited to do training with them and all that jazz.

Well that's all for today!

Remembering

The past few days haven't been too exciting. Big thing though, my fraternity brother, Garret went to the ER on Wednesday. He's had a hematoma for a few weeks and I think the pain finally got to him. I'm glad he went though, because now he's feeling much better. They kept him overnight and they were going to just drain it on Thursday. Instead on Thursday they decided do take him to the OR and actually do surgery on it. He thought they were going to release him that day but kept him overnight again. He got bored a lot today, but they finally released him. I'm glad he's finally feeling better though, because I didn't like seeing him in pain. Joe's watching over him now and I'll be there to help when I get back to Indy later this weekend.

Had my second exam in Physics today. I think it went really well. I finished it faster than the first one, and I felt like I understood a lot more of the material that was on the exam. I guess I just understand electrical physics much more than mechanical physics. Then after class, I drove back to Gas City to spend some time with my parents. My dad's leaving for TX for about a month to take over his friend's job while he's out because of surgery. Not the best time for him to leave, but he is getting paid so that's nice. We had ribs for dinner, which were awesome!

After dinner we kind of picked out some stuff to sell. I guess Gas City is having a city wide rummage tomorrow so mom wanted to take some things to Aamie so we could sell them. I decided to go through my bedroom and find some things I could sell. It was kind of an interesting experience. I found all sorts of stuff I didn't even know I had. I found all my old notes from college classes, my selective service letter, and even some old pictures of me and friends. I also started thinking how much of a pain it will be when we finally move out of this house. Especially all the random things that I have. I couldn't decide what I would reallly do with it all. Especially the things I got in HS that meant so much to me, but now don't really have anything at all. One example was my mini-sectional tennis trophy. I have two of them, but after having left HS I just don't see what I'll do with them now. When I told my mom about that she just says "It'll all go in a box and go to storage when you're older." Kinda makes me sad knowing all the things I worked so hard for in HS just don't have much meaning to me know.

Had a good talk with my parents about the rest of school. Looks like the semester that I thought I would just let stay open won't be such a good idea. If I do that, then I won't have any insurance, which would be a bad idea. Instead I think I'm going to talk to my advisor about switching around some classes so that I'm able to get a minor in Criminal Justice. Then also my last semester I could probably get a part time job. I've thought about maybe trying to clerk for a court or something. (They make really good money!) Anyways, that's about it for now!

Two Days

Well Tuesday was pretty jam packed full of stuff. I slept in and then went to physics class. Which was just completely boring as usual. After that Brady and I went back to the USG Office and did a few things. Mostly just played around on Facebook. I drove over to Park Place to get some info over there, which I later discovered I wasn't supposed to have done...oops. Then I went to the Tennis Center and got my credentials taken care of for the Indy Tennis Tournament. Get to work some late night shifts next week, but should still be a good time. They were even able to switch my volunteer time so now I can head up to Chicago on the 25th! After that went back to the office and did some work with Tatum. Then we and Nick went to get some Chinese before our Kaplan law school insider seminar. The seminar actually went really well. I didn't ask a lot of questions, but learned some good things from other people's.

The best part of the night though was getting to see Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince! I was very excited and we went to see the midnight showing. We made some shirts that looked like quidditch jerseys and everything. Always fun times. The movie was pretty good. I wasn't a huge fan of the movie, but overall it was still decent. Be sure to go see it!

Was late to class today because I was so exhausted from Harry Potter the night before. Went to the office to take nap, followed by the longest USG exec. meeting we've had all summer. Basically almost three house long. But we got our action items finally so that was really exciting. And sort of hammered out the budget. Poor Tatum had to go back and rework a lot of numbers.

Hooray for a good two days!

Electric Feeling

Today was awesome. I slept in until like 10. Woke up and started to watch some of the confirmation hearing for Judge Sotomayor. Mostly just got to watch the Senators do their opening statements, but it was still pretty interesting. I did like the quote she gave about "judges aren't to make they law, they are to apply it."

Went to class and worked on the wrong homework assignment. But that's ok, because that means I don't have any tonight! Got our test back from last Wednesday and turns out I did really well. Got a B+. Pretty good considering I don't think I got a B on any of the ones from first summer session. Found out we got some extra credit in lab too so that's awesome too.

Came home and did some random stuff for a while. Then decided to research some new computers. My laptop is dying so looking at getting a netbook and a desktop as well. Found some good deals with Dell. Tom told me about the outlet store on there. Pretty nice...able to get the same thing I "made" on the order thing except about $50 cheaper!

That's it for now!

Weekend at Ohio University

Ok so this weekend was a BLAST! After class on Friday I drove over to Ohio to spend some time at Ohio University in Athens.

Before I went to Athens though, I decided to stop by Dayton to visit the Ohio Mu chapter and have a quick dinner with some of their guys. Dad used to live in Dayton, but I never saw the university that was there. Nice campus and definitely a college area. The house the guys are living in now isn't their chapter house, but did get to see that as we walked to dinner. Kevin Heitz, the President and Joe Matt, the Corresponding Secretary went to Buffalo Wild Wings with me. It was set up differently than the ones here, more like a bar then a restaurant. Then we got some ice cream...compliments of Joe.

The trip from Dayton to Athens was the worst drive ever! Back roads the whole time. The only thing that was decent was that the scenery. It was very peaceful out there. Got into Athens around 9ish, just in time to not be left out of the movie. We went to Nelsonville 10 to see Bruno. I don't think I've said "Oh my God!" so many times in one movie. If you're able to stand being uncomfortable for the whole time, then feel free to see it. After that we went back to Jon and Jake's apartment and just relaxed.

Saturday we woke and up and Jon and Jake made us all breakfast. Which was delicious! Props to them. After breakfast Eugene and Aaron took us (John, Kevin, and me) on a walking tour of some of OU's campus. It such a nice place. I like going there, because it's the exact opposite of what IUPUI is. Then the OU guys had a little meeting to get some things determined for the upcoming year. This was way better than the four hour election meeting I was present for in the winter! Then we went to Chipotle, which was pretty good, but I think I like Qdoba more. Then nap time until we went over to Klink's apartment and had some festivities there. Lets just say there was some hilarious dancing.

Sunday was pretty relaxed. Woke up and went to the bagel deli across the street for breakfast and then I ended up taking a nap for like three hours. Which was probably pretty good considering I had a four hour drive ahead of me. Ron and I went to Sonic! It was delicious and the Cherry Limeades we got were prolly the best drink I've had in a long time. Then the trip home began. Good talks with Ron on the way to Columbus where I dropped him off then, just continued on the way to Indy.

Time to get ready for another week of Physics. Have a test on Friday so that won't be fun at all, but it must be done. Still waiting for the results of the first test. Should be interesting. That's it for now though!

Week Recap

So it's been a while since I've updated this thing, so now I'll recap the past week.

Monday was pretty fun. I had a meeting with UITS, the university technology people, for USG and we had a good talk. They gave us some really good information about all the new changes they are making, and it definitely seems that they are really here for the betterment of student life when it comes to technology usage. After our meeting they gave us a tour of the facility. We got to see the high definition display wall as well as some 3D things. They let us use the virtual reality thing too. That was a lot of fun. We even got to see the servers that the univserity uses. The second part of the day wasn't so great. Started up my second summer session and with that is Physics 202. My professor isn't that great and I don't think he really wants to be teaching so it will definitely be an interesting class. The lab portion isn't bad though, our TA is pretty funny.

Tuesday I just had class. Then afterwards, I drove home for the night because I had an eye appointment the next morning. Got to spend some time with my parents though. Dad made steaks and mom had made sun tea, so all in all it was a great meal. After dinner we ended up going to the movie theater and seeing "The Hangover." It was probably one of the funniest movies I have seen in a while.

Wednesday I had my eye appointment. Eyes got worse! Yeah! Beyond that nothing exciting there...came back to Indy and had class again. That night we had a USG Executive Meeting. Feel like that went pretty well. We picked what committees we would be working with and I'm happy to say, that I got Constitutional Revisions :D. We got part way through our action items thinking, but didn't und up finishing it so not sure what all we are focusing on yet.

Thursday was nice, because it was the beginning of a long weekend since the campus was closed the 3rd to observe the 4th. When I got back to the house I decided to head to Target and pick up some new movies. Ended up watching all three in a row pretty much, but was really relaxing.

Friday I woke up and then hung out with Kelsey. We went to her new apartment and unloaded some stuff she had in her car. Then we walked across the street and tried the restaurant Zing. It was really good. After that we started driving up to Lake Freeman to hang out for the day. We rode around on the wave runner for a long time which was awesome. Haven't really been on those a lot, but they are a ton of fun. Kelsey tried to throw me off a few times, but I stayed on. Later that night we took the boat out and watched the fireworks while sitting on the lake. That was a lot of fun. Then Kelsey's parents came and made some food and just hung out for the rest of the night.

Woke up on the 4th to an awesome breakfast made by Kelsey's mom. Then we went down to the boat dock and watched the "Boat Parade." After that played some cards with the neighbors and then Kelsey and I drove back down to Indy. Well she drove...and I slept. Got back to the house and then hung out here for a bit for Ryan's birthday. Then we went over to Cora's apartment since she is leaving for Africa to make sure we could say goodbye to her. Was a lot of fun to go there. Got to see some of my friends that I haven't seen in a while. Then we came back to the house to finish out the festivities of the 4th and for Ryan's 22nd birthday. All in all defnitely a good night!

Saying Goodbye

Well the weekend has been a blast. Friday night was pretty relaxing. Just hung out at the house with the guys and played some games for most of the night.

Saturday was the best day of the weekend. Ron Ransom had his going away party as he is now heading to Ohio University to pursue his master's degree. Also got to hang out with my parents before that since we went out and had lunch. We went to Union Jack's which is a pub up the street in Broadripple. Had a really good time hanging out with them. It's always nice to be able to catch back up with them.

After lunch the guys and I went over to Katie's house, which is where Ron lives, and celebrated with him. Pretty good group showed up. Most of the house came, some of his friends from Butler, and some Headquarter staff were there as well. Was a good day filled with some cornhole, grilling on the "baby" grill, and just general socializing. One of the best parts was when some of the guys started playing beer pong there weren't any ping pong balls, so they decided to use bottlecaps instead. Ryan and Joe were surprisingly good with them. Ended up going home to change into jeans because I couldn't stand the bugs anymore, then went back. Hung out with Ron and all the guys some more and finally dropped Ron, Jason, and Tyler off at the bars before heading home to go to bed.

All in all though I'm sad that Ron is leaving. He was the person who worked with our colony and made sure we were on the right track to become a chapter. If it wasn't for him I don't know if we'd really have a chaptere at IUPUI now. But I'm sure glad he had faith in us and I'm glad that we are where we are now. He will truly be missed...

Relaxation

So the past couple days have been pretty awesome. Physics 201 ended on Wednesday after I took the final so that was a huge relief. Since then I've basically done nothing but sometimes that is one of the best feelings there is. I did check online today though to see my grade in physics. Was very excited to see that I got a B! Not to shabby for missing a whole week of class if I do say so myself.

Last night I went to a networking event for the Indianapolis Alumni Association of Phi Kappa Psi. Was very successful. For a first time event there were probably about 40 or so people that showed up throughout the night. Met some cool people and a few in the law line of work so that was nice. Afterwards the brothers and I went to dinner at Buffalo Wild Wings. Always an enjoyable time.

For now that's about it.

New Beginnings

So I decided to steal this idea from my roommate Joe. He started a blog so his family and friends could know what's going on in his life and I thought it sounded cool, so I decided to start this one. I'll try to update it as often as I can remember to do so.

Well I just got back from almost a full week in Buffalo, NY. The city itself isn't really a lot of fun and I'm definitely glad to be back in Indy. I was there for a Phi Kappa Psi conference known as Woodrow Wilson Leadership School. I was a small group leader which was pretty fun. Got to meet a lot of knew brothers from all over the nation and such. It was also nice because I got to hang out with some people that I just haven't had a chance to hang out with since we are all from different states.

The big thing that happened for me while I was there, was that I was elected as the District III Archon for Phi Kappa Psi. Basically this position is the voice for all of Wisconsin, Illinois, Michigan, Indiana, and a bit of Ohio to the national executive council for the fraternity. I'll hold the position for the next two years and am now going to get a chance to travel all over my district. After I got elected I got to sit at the head table for the banquet and all that jazz. It was kind of strange, but it's set in now and I can't wait to get to work on the position.

Now that I'm back I had to catch up on the entire week of class that I missed. Good news though, after tomorrow it's over. My final test is tomorrow and then I get a few days to just relax before summer session 2 starts.

Well that's the big updates for now.
